Newberry, S.C. - The Newberry College Men's Basketball Team (10-10, 5-7) connected on seven three-pointers en route to a 73-62 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University (2-18, 1-11) Saturday evening at Eleazer Arena.

Newberry's Ray Robinson (Jacksonville, Fla.) came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points while Brunes Charles (Naples, Fla.) added 12 points as the Wolves avenged an earlier loss to the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior forward Jeff Thomas (Chapel Hill, N.C.) led all scorers with 18 points while freshman forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) added 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds but the Bears suffered their 12th straight loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne cut a 12-point, first-half deficit (34-22) to just one point at halftime as Newberry held a 35-34 lead entering break.

L-R took its only lead of the contest when Thomas finished off a three-point play to give the Bears a 56-54 advantage with 8:05 remaining.

However, Newberry responded with 10 straight points to take a 64-56 lead at the 4:12 mark of the second half and never saw Lenoir-Rhyne get within six points the rest of the way.

The Bears also hit just one-of-seven shots from three-point range while the Wolves held a 32-22 advantage in rebounds.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to play Wingate while Newberry hosts Anderson in the next round of South Atlantic Conference games. Both contests are scheduled for Wednesday at 8 p.m.
