Bears suffer their fifth straight loss
Freshman guard Allan Jones scored a team-high 16 points in Lenoir-Rhyne's 88-50 loss to No. 8 Augusta State Wednesday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
Hickory, N.C. - The Augusta State University Men's Basketball Team (8-0) remained undefeated on the year with an 88-50 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (1-6) Wednesday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium. The Jaguars came into the contest ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division II.
Tye Beal (Arlington, Va.) was one of five players to score in double figures for Augusta State as he finished with a team-high 16 points.
Franck Ndongo (Yaounde, CAMEROON) and George Johnson (Arlington, Va.) added 15 points each for the Jaguars, who hit 13 three-pointers for the game while shooting 61 percent (30-for-49).
Johnson and Beal led the three-point barrage for Augusta State with five and four treys, respectively.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which suffered its worst loss since a 93-55 defeat to Texas Christian during the 2001-02 season, was led by freshman guard Allan Jones' (Clemmons, N.C.) 16 points. However, Jones was the lone player to score in double figures for L-R.
Augusta State never trailed in the game and used an 18-8 run to close the first half with a 43-24 advantage while staying in command the rest of the way.
Lenoir-Rhyne also hit just 38 percent (18-of-48) from the field in losing its fifth consecutive game.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Newberry in a South Atlantic Conference contest Saturday at 4 p.m. Augusta State, meanwhile, travels to Morrow, Ga., to face Clayton State in a Peach Beach Conference contest Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
