Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill Quotes
May 14, 2010
Lenoir-Rhyne Head Coach Shena Hollar:
"I thought we played really well to not have played for three weeks. We had good defense and we got hits when we needed them. We struggled a little bit with people in scoring position. Other than that I was satisfied with today. When you play somebody five times, you know what they're going to do and they know what you're going to do so you try to execute a little bit and see what you can get out of it."
(on the quick start):
"Sometimes we get off to a quick start and get a lead and say, "Oh we're cruising," but we didn't let them back into the game until just a little bit there in the seventh inning."
(on playing Augusta State):
"They're a good club. They're going to swing the bat. They have one pitcher that's better than the other two who threw today. We have to keep them off the bases because they have a couple kids that can really slug it. It's going to be a good game."
Sophomore Sarah Atkins
(on her home run):
"The first at bat she threw me a rise ball and I kind of missed it but I knew she was going to throw away from me the next time. When she came inside on me I tried to stay on top of it and it went a long ways. I tried to take advantage of it because I knew it was coming and I was happy when it did. Hopefully that will spark something tomorrow so we can be effective tomorrow and score some runs."
Freshman Alex Smith
(on her game as a pitcher):
"I thought I threw pretty well after three weeks off, I was kind of worried about that going in. But I got out there talking to my catcher and settled down and got focused and remembered it was just her and me out there."
Mars Hill Head Coach David Williams:
"I didn't think we played bad. You can't take anything away from our team or L-R. L-R's a great team and in the top 10. You know when you play them going in that it's going to be tough and when you hold them to three runs you're putting yourself in the game to be competitive. I feel like we did a decent job today. The three runs we gave up today was the fewest in any of the five times we've seen them this year. We played pretty well and didn't make any errors and put the bat on the ball but were popping it up. We finally started to get on it in the sixth and seventh inning. I'm not upset with how we played, L-R came to play and it was a good game in my opinion."
(on Tiffany Farthing's outing as a pitcher):
"I feel like Tiffany did a good job for us she got us a lot of pop outs and kept the ball low for most of the day. We were worried about giving up the deep ball as many home runs as L-R has hit this year you have to worry about that. With the exception of that home run I think we did a pretty good job of that."
(on facing Armstrong Atlantic State tomorrow):
"We haven't seen each other this year so it's going to be interesting. It's kind of what the tournament's about in seeing teams who haven't faced each other yet. It will be a little bit of a guessing game for both of us because all I know about them is the couple of innings I saw in the first game today."
