Augusta State and Armstrong Atlantic State Quotes

Augusta State Head Coach Melissa Mullins:
"I thought we played great we were excited and had a couple great practices before the weekend. I’m never surprised at what we can do but we pitched and hit and fielded well today and we played to our potential and that’s all I ever ask of them."

On coming back after going 1-2 in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament:
"It’s huge especially because Armstrong put us out of the conference tournament. We didn’t play our best in that game and today I think we came out and did what we needed to do. It shows what we are capable of doing and it was a great comeback victory for us."

On scoring runs early in the game:
"I think being able to put the pressure on the other team and that helps you to relax a little bit and work your game a little bit, pitch like you want to pitch, do some of the fun things that you like to do and put a little pressure on the other team if you can come out and put some runs on the board early in the game."

Sophomore Kristen Jones
(on coming back from a disappointing Peach Belt Tournament):
"I think we came out of the conference tournament and really wanted to play Armstrong today. The last time we played them we didn’t hit like we knew we could hit, and today we hit all up and down the lineup and if we didn’t get a hit we had good at bats."

Sophomore Sara DeMuth
(on facing Armstrong Atlantic State back-to-back):

"Any team you lose to you want to come back and beat them but it was a good team effort all the way around. In the conference tournament we had mental errors all around and we just weren’t on our game including myself and to come back and show them that we can beat them by all of us doing a good job, both hitting and in the field."

(On her outing today in the circle):
"I had to keep it more on the plate but my catcher called a good game. She studied the batters and knew what to call and what not to call. And the defense did a great job behind me."

Armstrong Atlantic State Head Coach Ted Evans:
"I think we were worried about the layoff and being the same team. It’s like teams that go to bowl games in football and have a month between games. I don’t know if that had anything to do with what happened today but it’s always a concern."

(On Augusta State scoring early and often during the game):
This game is a game of momentum. We scored in the top of the first and then they come back with five unanswered runs. Augusta State is a good team and they have good pitching. When you’re down by four runs it’s hard to get back in the game against them, especially since she had the second-best ERA in the (Peach Belt).

Freshman Shelby Duff
(on having to come through the loser’s bracket after a loss):

"We’re going to have to do it the hard way. It doesn’t mean that we can’t do it we just have to come back and win more games."
