Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Tennis Team (1-13, 1-6) won its first match of the 2010 season with an 8-1 win over Newberry College (1-11, 0-6) Friday afternoon at Hickory, N.C. The Bears suffer their only setback at first singles in the contest.
Five players - freshman Ivey Tant (Lansing, N.C.), senior Bekah Rhoney (Hickory, N.C.), sophomore Mariel Mena (Gainesville, Fla.), junior Cathryn Jarrett (Salem, Va.) and sophomore Lizzie Warlick (Statesville, N.C.) - swept both singles and doubles for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Lenoir-Rhyne faces Spartanburg Methodist at home on Sunday at 1:30 p.m., before hosting Brevard in a SAC match Wednesday at 2 p.m. The match with Brevard will take place at Hickory's Jaycee Park.
