The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Cross Country Team Earns All-Academic Honors

Two members of each of the L-R Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams earn scholar-athlete honors

The 2009 Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Cross Country Team earned All-Academic honors by the United States Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association.

New Orleans, La. - The 2009 Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Cross Country Team, which captured back-to-back South Atlantic Conference Championships, has earned NCAA Division II All-Academic honors.  The award is sponsored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.

L-R held a 3.17 team grade point average for the fall of 2009.

In addition, two members of both the Leonir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams were named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams:  junior Jake Stuckey (Statesville, N.C.) and freshman Patrick Ryan (Fort Myers, Fla.) for the men's squad and sophomores Kate Griewisch (Banner Elk, N.C.) and Tiffany Payne (Painted Post, N.Y.) for the women's team.

Stuckey, the 2008-09 PEF/Bears Club Scholar-Athlete Of the Year, was one of nine men's student-athletes to have a 4.0 grade point average or better.

To qualify for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least 12 semester/quarter hours through the semester of competition at the institution to be eligible.  The student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have placed in the top 30% of the total number of athletes eligible to compete at the respective regional championships or have placed in the top 50% of the field at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.
