San Angelo, Texas – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Elizabeth Hawes was named to the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-America First Team. Hawes, a freshman midfielder from Valdese, N.C., is the first Lenoir-Rhyne player to earn First-Team All-America honors in women’s soccer since Natalie Daniel in 1995.
Hawes led the South Atlantic Conference in goals (17) and points (41) this season and became the first player in league history to earn SAC Player-Of-The-Year and Freshman-Of-The-Year honors in the same year in 2009.
Hawes also finished with a team-leading seven assists this season to go along with four game-winning goals and two hat tricks.
The East Burke High School graduate was a First-Team All-Southeast Region pick by Daktronics last month and led Lenoir-Rhyne (14-7-2) to the finals of the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament.
Sports information directors from NCAA D-II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the fourth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA D-II Women’s Soccer All-America and all-region teams. A total of 39 student-athletes representing 23 different institutions filled out the three teams.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The online nomination and voting processes are powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
