Rock Hill, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Kate Griewisch has been named the SAC Women’s Cross Country Runner Of The Week for the fifth time this year, league officials announced today. The Banner Elk, N.C., native won the 2009 Asics-Winthrop Fall Classic last Saturday morning.
Griewisch ran a 14:13 on the 4K course and won the race by 18 seconds against mostly NCAA Division I competition. The Avery County High School graduate has earned weekly honors after every race she has competed in this year.
Griewisch earned First-Team All-SAC honors last year after finishing second in the championship race and was named the league freshman of the year. Griewisch was also an NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region selection in 2008.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Southside Park in Newton, N.C. The women’s race begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by the men’s competition at 10:00 a.m.
