Newberry Leads After Day One Of The 2009 Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Women's Golf Intercollegiate

Host school, Lenoir-Rhyne University, sits in seventh place after 18 holes

Sophomore Katie Thackerson is the Bears' top golfer after the first day on the 2009 Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Women's Golf Intercollegiate.

Calabash, N.C. – Newberry shot a 312 (+24) to lead after a rainy round one Monday at the 2009 Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Women’s Golf Intercollegiate, which is taken place at the Meadowlands Golf Club.  Newberry leads Wingate (314, +26) by two strokes while the host school, L-R (331, +43), is seventh out of 13 schools.

UNC Pembroke’s Katja Dammann is the top individual after shooting a three-over 75 on the par-72, 5,802-yard course and leads by one stroke over Tusculum’s Mary Ann Vizcarrondo (76, +4).

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Katie Thackerson (Earl, N.C.) is tied for 11th after 18 holes of play after shooting a 79 (+7).  Bear junior Brenna Martens (St. Croix Falls, Wisc.) is tied for 18th with an 81 (+9).

The second and final round takes place on Tuesday.
