Lenoir-Rhyne University To Introduce Spirit Program For 2010-11

The Lenoir Rhyne Spirit Program consists of a cheerleading team, SugarBears dance team and and mascots who show great dedication, teamwork and school spirit. New For Lenoir-Rhyne In 2010 - 2011
Coach Creson is excited to announce two teams beginning in 2010 - 2011. There will be a Co-ed team consisting of 8 to 10 couples and an all girl team consisting of 18 to 22 girls. Ladies trying out for the CO-ED squad should have some previous co-ed stunting experience. Males should be athletic and willing to learn and do not need previous cheerleading experience to be eligible to tryout. *Tumbling requirements: Ladies wishing to tryout for the co-ed squad should have a standing backhandspring. All Girl squad members are strongly encouraged to have tumbling but not required. There are no tumbling requirements for males. A competition team will be comprised of members from both the co-ed and all girl teams. Tryouts for the competition team will be held during the fall. Cheerleaders
The Lenoir Rhyne cheerleading team cheers for all home football games and will only travel to select away games during the fall. L-R cheerleaders also cheer for all home basketball games and will only travel to tournament games during the spring. Each cheerleader is expected to attend weekly practices, workouts, study hall, and scheduled appearances/volunteer opportunities throughout the campus and community. Cheerleaders are required to maintain a 2.0 GPA with no exceptions. Uniforms, bags, poms and travel expenses are paid for. Each individual is responsible for purchasing shoes, warm-ups, and camp wear.
Cheerleading Auditions 2010-2011
Tryouts are Friday, April 23, from 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m., and Saturday, April 24, from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., and open to incoming freshman, transfers and current L-R students. Tryouts take place over the weekend with cuts being made at the end of each night. Tryouts will consist of stunting, jumps, cheers, tumbling, dance, interview, and a fitness test. Females must have previous cheerleading experience. Males do not need previous cheerleading experience. Tumbling is not required but strongly encouraged.
Attire/ Appearance
FEMALES: Please wear solid colored shorts and solid sports bra or fitted tank, cheerleading shoes or soft soled tennis shoes, please wear your hair half up half down with a tied ribbon bow. *remember this is an audition dress to impress*
MALES: Please wear athletic shorts and solid t-shirt or tank with tennis shoes.
Each cheerleader will be entitled to a scholarship, with the highest scoring individual receiving additional scholarship money. Cheerleaders will also be required to attend summer practices and NCA college cheerleading camp during the end of the summer. If you are interested in tryouts for 2010-11, please fill out the cheerleading interest form and return it to Christy Creson and Stetson Patton, Spirit Program Advisors and Coaches.
SugarBears Dance Team
We are excited to bring the SugarBears back to Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics for the 2010-11 year.
SugarBears Auditions for 2010-2011
Auditions for the SugarBears Dance Team will be held Sunday ,April 25, at 2:00 p.m. You do not have to have previous dance experience to audition but is encouraged. The style of the SugarBears is NFL/NBA entertainment style of dance. Tryouts will consist of a short hip hop/jazz dance, and interview.
Attire/ Appearance: Please wear solid shorts with skin colored tights, crop-top or sports bra, dance sneakers or tennis shoes(no jazz shoes). No loose fitting clothing or t-shirts, Wear your hair down (no ponytails or bows), Remember this is an audition so be creative and be dressed for a performance including hair and makeup! *Please arrive and depart in a warm-up*
Reminder: Dancers will have various practices during the week, workouts on their own; will be performing at football games, basketball games, and various events throughout the campus and community. Each Dancer will maintain at GPA of 2.0 with no exceptions.
Auditions will be based on dance skills, physical fitness, interview presentation and showmanship. Scholarships are not offered for dancers at this time. Some equipment is covered when funds are available. Please contact spirit advisor with any questions regarding the Dance Team.
Mascots
Lenoir Rhyne University's long time mascots Joe and Josie Bear are also a huge part of our spirit program. You will find Joe and Josie at all home football and basketball games and select away football games. Scholarships are offered when funds are available. Joe and Josie also make many campus and community appearances. We currently offer four spots on our mascot team.
Mascot Auditions for 2010-11
Tryouts for Joe and Josie are Saturday, April 24, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., during April along side cheerleading tryouts. Mascots are asked to attend NCA summer mascot camp at the end of the summer. If you are interested in requesting Joe and Josie for an event or you have questions regarding the mascot program, please contact the cheerleading advisor.
