Lenoir-Rhyne's Kate Griewisch Selected As A First-Team Academic All-American

Towson, Md. - Lenoir-Rhyne's Kate Griewisch has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America NCAA Division II Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team. The squad is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Griewisch, a senior from Banner Elk, N.C., earns Academic All-American accolades for the second straight year after being named to the second team in 2011.
Griewisch recently finished her collegiate career at Lenoir-Rhyne as a seven-time NCAA Division II All-American in three sports: women's cross country and women's indoor and outdoor track and field.
Griewisch earned All-American honors three times in both women's cross country (2009-11) and outdoor track and field (2011-12) and once in indoor track and field (2012).
In women's cross country, Griewisch finished fourth out of 186 competitors at the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship in Spokane, Wash., this past November and has won the last three Southeast Regional races.
Griewisch also won the SAC Women's Cross Country Championship in 2009 and 2011 and led the Bears to back-to-back league titles in 2008 and 2009.
In outdoor track and field, Griewisch garnered All-American honors in both the women's 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter championships after finishing fourth and third, respectively, in the national finals this past May in Pueblo, Colo.
Griewisch leaves L-R holding school outdoor records in the one mile (5:03), 1,500-meter (4:32), 3,000-meter (10:36), 5,000-meter (16:20) and 10,000-meter (33:44) runs.
Griewisch's All-American honor in indoor track and field came in March in Mankato, Minn., when she placed fourth overall in the 5K at the D-II National Championships.
An outstanding student as well, Griewisch graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne last month with a 3.85 grade point average and a bachelor's degree in biology.
Griewisch is a three-time recipient of the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Of The Year award (2009-11) and was named the female recipient of the Presidents Award in 2010-11. The Presidents Award is the highest honor the South Atlantic Conference gives out on an annual basis.
In addition, Griewisch was recently named the 2011-12 South Atlantic Conference Female Athlete Of The Year and is the league's nominee for the NCAA Woman Of The Year.
