Jamestown, N.Y. - Brian Dice, a former member of the Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team, has been called up by the Jamestown Jammers. Jamestown is a part of the New York-Penn League which competes at the Short-Season Class A Level. The Jammers are an affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
Jamestown's 2012 season begins on Monday, June 18, against Mahoning Valley at home starting at 7:05 p.m.
Dice signed a free agent contract last summer with the Marlins and played in the Gulf Coast Rookie League in Jupiter, Fla.
Dice was a four-year letterwinner (2008-11) for the Bears who earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors in 2010 and 2011 while playing both catcher and designated hitter for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Dice also started all four years for Lenoir-Rhyne and finished his collegiate career with a .350 batting average, 31 home runs and 160 runs batted in. Dice also hit safely in 22 straight games once.
As a junior in 2010, Dice put together one of the best offensive seasons in school history when he batted .435 with 16 home runs, 59 runs batted in and a .806 slugging percentage en route to All-SAC First-Team and NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region honors.
Dice was also selected to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Baseball Team twice (2010-11).
