Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Leads The Way With Four All-State Players

Senior pitcher Dawon Millwood earns all-state honors for the third straight year
Lenoir-Rhyne senior pitcher Dawon Millwood was one of four players to be named to the 2012 North Carolina College Sports Information Association All-State College Division Softball Team.
Greensboro, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne University led all schools with four selections to the 2012 NCCSIA All-State College Division Softball Team. NCCSIA is the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association.
Senior pitcher Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.), senior catcher Sarah Atkins (Newport News, Va.), junior first baseman Jessica Fellmeth (Waxhaw, N.C.) and sophomore third baseman Haily Jarman (Wadesboro, N.C.) all earned all-state accolades for the Bears this spring.
Millwood was named to the all-state team for the third straight year after finishing with a 34-8 record, a 1.44 earned run average and 206 strikeouts this spring.
Millwood was named the SAC Pitcher Of The Year for the second straight season in 2012 and leaves L-R as the school's all-time leader in victories (100) and shutouts (43).
Atkins finished the season ranked second on the team in home runs (11) and RBI (48) while hitting .322 on the year.
Atkins, a second-team All-American in 2010, graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne ranked first on the school's career list in round-trippers (46), runs batted in (190) and walks (109).
Fellmeth led the Bears with 14 home runs and 56 runs batted in while Jarman ranked first on the squad in numerous offensive categories in 2012 including hitting (.390), runs scored (51), hits (76), doubles (18), triples (five), total bases (158) and slugging percentage (.656).
All four players helped the Bears finish 48-13 on the season including a 14-4 mark in the South Atlantic Conference in addition to earning a spot in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship. L-R, ranked No. 20 in the final national poll, also won the league regular season and tournament championships for the third straight year in 2012.
All four players garnered All-South Atlantic Conference and NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region honors this season as well.
Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina’s NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college athletics in the state. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina whose responsibilities include sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA, NCCAA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball. Over 1,000 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
