Boone, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams put together a strong performance at the Appalachian Open Friday at the Belk Track at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Two individuals won their respective events as freshman Daryel Morris (Rome, Ga.) placed first in the men's 200-meter dash (22.22) as did sophomore Megan Carper (Franklinton, N.C.) in the women's triple jump (32'2.25").
In the men's 100-meter dash, senior Richard Walker (Atlanta, Ga.) and junior Jamont Jones (Washington, N.C.) finished third and fourth with times of 11:06 and 11:17, respectively, for the Bears.
L-R sophomore Mike Ryan (Sewickley, Pa.) was fifth in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:18.27 while junior Caleb Kingery (Roanoke, Va.) ran a 1:58.05 in the 800-meter run to place third overall.
The trio of Jones, Kingery, Maidens and Morris also led the Bears to a first-place finish in the men's 1,600-meter relay (3:23.68).
On the women's side, junior Elizabeth Chaffee (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was seventh in the 800-meter run (2:30.74) and sophomore Ashley Kale (Maiden, N.C.) finished eighth in the 1,500-meter run (5:23.10).
Lenoir-Rhyne will host the Southeast Regional Championship next Friday and Saturday on campus at the Irwin Belk Track as part of the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
