Hickory, N.C. - The Catawba College Baseball Team (26-7, 17-1), ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II, swept a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader from Lenoir-Rhyne University (9-26, 5-13), 7-5 and 11-3, Saturday afternoon at Bears Field.
Game One - Catawba 7,
Lenoir-Rhyne 5
The Indians' Greg Lawson (Charlotte, N.C.) broke a five-all tie with the game-winning, two-run single in the top of the fifth inning to lead Catawba to the win.
Chris Dula (Troutman, N.C.) added a two-run home run for Catawba, who rallied from a 3-1 deficit en route to the victory.
L-R junior first baseman Colton Hansley (Asheville, N.C.) hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and finished with a game-high four runs batted in despite the loss.
Hansley is now tied for the team lead in home runs with four on the year.
Catawba's J.J. Jankowski (McMurray, Pa.) improved to 7-0 on the season after going the distance and striking out 10 batters
Meanwhile, Lenoir-Rhyne junior Jared Carroll (Bladenboro, N.C.) fell to 3-3 with loss. Carroll allowed just one earned run in five innings of work to go along with five strikeouts.
Game Two - Catawba 11, Lenoir-Rhyne 3 (seven innings)
The Indians' Ethan Satterfield (Madison, N.C.) hit a pair of two-run triples and finished with five runs batted in to lead Catawba to the sweep.
With the score tied at two in the top of third inning, Satterfield connected on his first two-run triple of the contest which proved to be the game-winner.
Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, N.C.) added three hits and two runs batted in while Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, N.C.) improved to 6-3 after picking up the victory on the mound.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, sophomore Aaron Bentley (Lenoir, N.C.) (1-2) was tagged with the loss while sophomore third baseman Walton Shepherd (Lake Junaluska, N.C.) led the Bears with two hits and two runs scored in the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Tusculum in a non-conference regional game on Wednesday beginning at 4:00 p.m. Catawba returns home to face Carson-Newman in a league contest on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
