Four Lenoir-Rhyne players score three times to lead the Bears to the win
Lenoir-Rhyne University freshman Mary Minick was one of four Bears to score three goals in a 15-11 victory over Edinboro (Pennsylvania) Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium in Hickory, N.C.
Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team’s winning streak now stands at seven after a 15-11 victory over Edinboro (Pa.) (2-1) Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium. With the triumph, L-R improved to 8-2 on the season including a 7-0 mark at home.
Junior Sarah Minick (Marietta, Ga.), sophomore Hayley Beaty (Dallas, N.C.) and freshmen Lauren Donovan (Hollywood, Md.) and Mary Minick (Marietta, Ga.) all scored three goals each to lead the Bears to the win.
Edinboro's Rebecca Zajac (Binghamton, N.Y.) led all scorers with four goals while Shannon Rohrich (Munroe Falls, Ohio) added three goals and two assists despite the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the final three goals of the first half to forge a five-all tie entering intermission.
With the score tied at eight, Sarah Minick gave Lenoir-Rhyne the lead for good with her third and final goal at the 19:35 mark of the second half.
Sarah Minick added two assists as well for the Bears on the afternoon and currently leads the team in goals (30) and points scored (42) this year.
Freshman goalkeeper Allison Senft (Marietta, Ga.) picked up the win after stopping nine shots for the Bears, who held the edge in shots taken (31-25) and ground balls (22-17) in the victory.
The Fighting Scots goalkeeper, Teresa Fiori (Endicott, N.Y.), suffered the loss. Fiori tallied seven saves on the afternoon for Edinboro, who suffered its first setback of the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road for a pair of matches in Florida next weekend. On Thursday, L-R faces Rollins in Winter Park, Fla., at 7:00 p.m., before taking on Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla., on Saturday beginning at Noon.
