Bears improve to 8-8 on the season and 4-3 in league play

Salisbury, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (8-8, 4-3) won its fourth consecutive game, 61-58, over Catawba (4-11, 1-6) Wednesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Goodman Gymnasium.
Senior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.) and sophomore forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) each scored a team-high 13 points to pace the Bears in the win.
Catawba's Willie Gilmore (Fayetteville, N.C.) came off the bench to lead all scorers with 14 points despite the loss.
The Indians jumped out to a 26-18 lead with 5:25 remaining before halftime on a three-point play by Stuart Thomson (Poynton, ENGLAND) but the Bears rallied to take a 33-30 lead into the break.
L-R saw its advantage grow to eight points at 45-37 on a lay-up by senior guard Kevin Davis (Charlotte, N.C.) at the 13:22 mark of the second half before Catawba made a run to retake the lead.
The Indians held a 58-56 advantage with 1:15 left before the Bears scored the final five points en route to the win. A three-point play from junior forward B.J. Beasley (Charlotte, N.C.) with 30 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner.
Sophomore forward Matt Kunz (Kernersville, N.C.) added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench, all in the first half, for Lenoir-Rhyne as well.
Catawba's Cameron Lovelace (Cherryville, N.C.) chipped in with 11 points but the Indians shot just 39 percent (20-of-51) from the field in the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Harrogate, Tenn., to take on Lincoln Memorial in a league contest beginning at 8:00 p.m. Catawba remains at home to face SAC-rival Newberry beginning at 4:00 p.m.
