Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men’s Basketball Team and Head Coach John Lentz signed Spenser Sydney for the 2009-10 season.
Sydney, a native of Lincolnton, N.C., played prep basketball at East Lincoln High School where he averaged 13 points, four rebounds and three assists en route to All-Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference First-Team honors in 2008-09.
Sydney, a 6-4 guard, also led the Mustangs to the NCHSAA 2A State Semifinals in 2009 and was named to the Western Regional All-Tournament Team.
Sydney won the state 2A high jump title this year with a 6’8” and will compete on Lenoir-Rhyne’s Track and Field Team next season as well.
“Spenser (Sydney) is a versatile perimeter player and we look for him to give us length and athleticism on the wing” said Lentz. “His skill level will allow him to help right away.”
The Bears (18-11 in 2008-09) won the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament last season.
