Lenoir-Rhyne Subdues Brevard, 56-45, In Men's Basketball

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (7-8, 3-3) made it three South Atlantic Conference victories in a row with a 56-45 win over Brevard (2-13, 1-5) Saturday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) led the Bears in scoring for the second straight game, finishing with 13 points while senior guard Kevin Davis (Charlotte, N.C.) added 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.

Brevard's Drew Schauss (Greens Fork, Ind.) led all scorers with 17 points but the Tornados shot just 27 percent (15-of-55) from the field in suffering their second straight loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne fell behind by an 11-2 score to start the game but took control from there in building a 36-23 advantage entering break. The Bears held the Tornados without a field goal for the final 7:28 of the first half.

In the second half, L-R built its lead to as much as 20 points with a 53-33advantage on a lay-up by Jones with 7:13 left en route to the easy win.

In all, Lenoir-Rhyne kept Brevard without a field goal for 10:14 which spanned both halves and held a 43-28 advantage in rebounding. Sophomore guard Hunter McClintock (Durham, N.C.) added 11 points for L-R.

The Bears won their third consecutive league contest for the first time since the latter part of the 2009-10 season and snapped a four-game losing streak to the Tornados.

Lenoir-Rhyne plays Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference game on the road Wednesday in Salisbury, N.C., beginning at 8:00 p.m. Brevard, meanwhile, hosts Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., as well.
