Lenoir-Rhyne Defeats Carson-Newman, 66-60, In Men's Basketball For Its First League Win Of The Season

Bears improve to 5-8 on the year with the victory

Jefferson City, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (5-8, 1-3) picked up its first South Atlantic Conference win of the year with a 66-60 victory over Carson-Newman (9-5, 2-2) Saturday at Holt Fieldhouse.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which rallied from an early 10-point deficit, was led by sophomore guard Hunter McClintock (Durham, N.C.).
McClintock led all scorers with 17 points and connected on five three-pointers as the Bears snapped a three-game losing streak.
L-R senior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.) added 15 points and sophomore forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) totaled 14 points and six rebounds in the victory.
Antoine Davis (Rustburg, Va.) led Carson-Newman with 16 points and Marcellous Perez (Jacksonville, N.C.) added 14 points in the losing effort. Both players hit three treys for the Eagles as well.
The Bears saw themselves down by a 14-4 score just five minutes into the game but rallied to take a 35-30 lead into intermission.
The game remained close after halftime as Carson-Newman took its last lead of the contest on a lay-up by Kevin Leatherwood (Charlottesville, Va.) with 4:24 remaining for a 58-57 advantage.
Lenoir-Rhyne, however, closed the contest with a 9-2 run which included Blackmon's jump shot with 2:34 remaining that broke a 60-all tie and proved to be the game-winner.
L-R also held a 43-36 advantage in rebounding and limited Carson-Newman to just 31 percent shooting (eight-of-26) from behind the three-point line.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Wingate in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium while Carson-Newman plays at league-rival Tusculum. Both contests are scheduled to tip off at 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday.
