Sophomore from Clemmons, N.C., averaged 17.5 points a game in leading the Bears to a 2-0 week
Lenoir-Rhyne University sophomore forward Allan Jones, a native of Clemmons, N.C., has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Week.
Rock Hill, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Jones, a sophomore forward, averaged 17.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in leading L-R to a 2-0 week with a pair of victories over Virginia Union (73-60) and Elizabeth City State (67-61) last Friday and Saturday, respectively, in the USC Aiken Pre-Holiday Classic in Aiken, S.C.
Jones scored a game-high 21 points in the win over Virginia Union before a 14-point, seven-rebound performance against Elizabeth City State. For his efforts, Jones was named to the all-tournament squad.
Jones is currently second on the team in scoring (12.1 ppg) and third in rebounding (5.8 rpg) this year for the Bears.
Last year, Jones led Lenoir-Rhyne in scoring (13.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.3 rpg) en route to South Atlantic Conference All-Freshman Team honors. Jones was a 2011-12 Preseason All-SAC Second-Team selection as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne (4-5) next competes in the Bearcat Holiday Classic on December 29 and 30 in Greenwood, S.C. On Thursday, December 29, L-R faces Georgia Southwestern (5:30 p.m.) before taking on Lander on Friday, December 30, at 3:30 p.m.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts South Atlantic Conference-foe Anderson in its next home game on Wednesday, January 4, at 8:00 p.m., at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
