L-R Swimming Keeps Momentum Going Sunday At The Shark Invitational

Junior Alec Reitzel and freshman Chelsea Kyle both post NCAA Division II "B" cut times for the second straight day

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams put together another strong performance Sunday on the third day of the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational.  For the second straight day, junior Alec Reitzel (Hickory, N.C.) and freshman Chelsea Kyle (Knoxville, Tenn.) both posted NCAA Division II "B" cut times.

Reitzel earned the cut time in the 500-yard freestyle and finished eighth overall with a school-record time of 4:40.28 while Kyle established the "B" cut mark in the 200-yard butterfly (a school-record 2:05.84). 

Kyle finished second in the event finals Sunday evening as well.

Other men's swimmers to post new school marks on the day for the Bears where freshman Deaton Wright (Southern Pines, N.C.) in the 100-yard backstroke (54.40), freshman Kyle Hites (Lenoir, N.C.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.94) and junior Teddy Esch (Lenoir, N.C.) in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.27).

In addition, the Lenoir-Rhyne men's 800-yard freestyle relay squad established a new program mark with a time of 7:01.82.

For the Lenoir-Rhyne women, senior Lindsay Atkin (Hickory, N.C.) set a school record in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.81) and finished seventh overall.

After three days of competition, the men's squad sits in fifth place while the women's team is in sixth.  Tampa currently leads both the men's and women's team rankings.

The final day of the four-day invitational takes place on Monday at the NSU Aquatics Center.  Lenoir-Rhyne will then be back at home on Saturday, January 7, in a tri-meet against Limestone and Queens.
