Bears crack the century mark for the first time this year
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman guard Denzel Dillingham scored 15 points and was one of five Bears to score in double figures in a 100-62 victory over St. Andrews Tuesday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Basketball Team (2-5) snapped a three-game losing streak in emphatic fashion, 100-62, over St. Andrews University (3-7) Tuesday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
Five players scored in double figures for the Bears, led by senior forward Jeff Thomas (Chapel Hill, N.C.) with a game-high 19 points, as L-R won for the first time at home this season.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which never trailed in the game, raced to a 47-24 halftime lead and never looked back. The Bears shot 59 percent (37-of-63) from the floor including 65 percent (20-of-31) in the second half.
Senior guard Jon Hathcock (Concord, N.C.) added 16 points and hit all four three-point attempts while senior guard Kevin Davis (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman guard Denzel Dillingham (Hickory, N.C.) scored 15 points each as the Bears swept the season series from the Knights.
For St. Andrews, Antonio Moffitt (Raleigh, N.C.) scored a team-high 16 points and Ryan Streater (Charlotte, N.C.) chipped in with 12 points despite the loss.
L-R junior forward B.J. Beasley (Charlotte, N.C.) tallied eight points and a game-high 16 rebounds as the Bears held a 44-26 edge in rebounding as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne also crossed the century mark in points for the first time since a 111-109 overtime win at home over Carson-Newman in the first round of the conference tournament on March 4, 2009.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to action Friday, December 16, when it takes on Virginia Union in the USC Aiken Pre-Holiday Classic in Aiken, S.C., beginning at 5:30 p.m. St. Andrews hosts Mars Hill on Thursday, December 15, at 6 p.m.
