Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Splits Its Two Matches On Saturday

Gaffney, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (17-10) split its two matches at a tri-meet Saturday at the Timken Center.  L-R fell to Montevallo by a 3-0 score before sweeping Limestone, 3-0.

The Bears saw their five-match winning streak snapped when the Falcons prevailed by scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-14. 

Montevallo (12-13) was led by Manyi Ati (Lawrenceville, Ga.) with a match-high 14 kills while Michelle Walker (Houston, Texas) added 10 kills and Anna Garrison (LaVergne, Tenn.) dished out 40 assists in the victory.

For Lenoir-Rhyne, freshman middle blocker Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) finished with 12 kills and junior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) picked up 15 assists and six digs in the losing effort.

The Bears swept the Saints by scores of 25-23, 29-27 and 25-18 behind a match-high 14 kills and 15 digs from senior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.).

Rhyne added 11 kills while Lutz dished out a match-high 41 assists to go along with eight digs en route to the victory.

Limestone (13-13) was led by Jordan Preville (East Lansing, Mich.) with 18 kills while Danielle Seibert (Naperville, Ill.) finished with a double-double, 36 assists and 13 digs, despite the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts rival Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium on Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m.
