L-R's Kate Griewisch Named A Finalist For The Division II CCA National Scholar-Athlete Of The Year Award

Burnsville, Minn. - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Kate Griewisch has been named one of the eight finalists for the 2011 women's National Scholar-Athlete Of The Year.
Griewisch, a senior from Banner Elk, N.C., was also named the Southeast Region Scholar-Athlete Of The Year and is one of the eight region winners.
The announcement was made this week by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (CCA).
Griewisch earned NCAA Division II All-American honors in women's cross country twice (2009 and 2010) and outdoor track and field once (2011).
Griewisch became the first athlete in Lenoir-Rhyne's storied history to earn All-America honors in two different sports.
In women's cross country, Griewisch won the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Championship race and finished first in the past two NCAA Division II Southeast Regional meets (2009 and 2010).
Griewisch, a three-time All-SAC First-Team honoree (2008-10), also led L-R to back-to-back league championships in 2008 and 2009.
In outdoor track and field, Griewisch finished sixth in this year's NCAA Division II National Championship women's 10,000-meter race with a school-record time of 34:21 in Turlock, Calif.
Griewisch has been named a USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women's Athlete Of The Year in cross country (2009 and 2010) and indoor track and field (2011).
An outstanding student as well, Griewisch earned CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Second-Team honors last year for women's cross country and track and field and is a two-time SAC Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Of The Year (2009 and 2010).
Finally, Griewisch was the 2010-11 female recipient of the South Atlantic Conference Presidents Award, the most prestigious honor given by the league annually.
Griewisch carries a 3.81 grade point average while majoring in biology.
The award program provides the opportunity for Division II to highlight the extraordinary achievements of its student-athletes. To be nominated for consideration, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and possess outstanding athletic credentials.
The national Division II Conference Commissioner's Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award winners will be announced later this month.
