Third-Ranked North Georgia Softball Shuts Out Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-0

Teams square off in a rematch of the last year's super regionals
Junior Dawon Millwood allowed just two runs while striking out four batters in Lenoir-Rhyne's 2-0 loss to third-ranked North Georgia Friday at the Mid-South Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.
Spartanburg, S.C. - In a rematch of last year's NCAA Division II Southeast Super Regional Softball Tournament, third-ranked North Georgia (18-2) shut out No. 15 Lenoir-Rhyne University (13-5), 2-0, Friday night in the Mid-South Classic at the 295 Sports Complex.
The Saints' Jessica Coan (Duluth, Ga.) improved to 8-1 on the year after allowing just one hit in the complete game shutout. Coan struck out 19 batters, the second-most in NCAA Division II Softball history.
North Georgia plated single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings, respectively, and that is all the Saints would need.
North Georgia's Kayla Martin (Cumming, Ga.) hit a solo home run in the second inning while Kasey Knight (Watkinsville, Ga.) added a run-scoring single in the third inning.
Lenoir-Rhyne's lone hit came in the top of the fourth inning on a single by junior second baseman Carlee Carpenter (Newton, N.C.).
L-R junior Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) fell to 6-2 on the season despite allowing just two runs while striking out four batters in going the distance.
Lenoir-Rhyne plays Charleston (9:00 a.m.) and Lander (1:00 p.m.) on the second day of the Mid-South Classic Saturday.
