Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Wins Its First-Ever Match, 14-11 Over Lees-McRae

Levi Capron leads the Bears with four goals
Freshman Sam Ashton tallied two goals and two assists for Lenoir-Rhyne in a 14-11 win over Lees-McRae at home Wednesday evening for the school's first-ever victory.
Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Lacrosse Team (1-3) won its first match in school history Wednesday night over Lees-McRae College (0-4), 14-11, at Moretz Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Levi Capron (Weddington, N.C.) led the way with a team-high four goals while freshman Robert Darrow (Fort Myers, Fla.) added two goals and three assists for the Bears in the win.
Lees-McRae's Landon Guntman (Temecula, Calif.) led all scorers with five goals while Josh Shingleton (Temecula, Calif.) added four goals for the Bobcats despite the loss.
The Bears jumped out to an 8-2 advantage with just over three minutes remaining until halftime but the Bobcats reeled off seven straight goals capped off by a goal from Guntman for a 9-8 lead midway through the third period.
However, Lenoir-Rhyne responded by a scoring six of the next seven goals to take control at 14-10 with 4:08 left en route to the signature victory.
Lees-McRae held a 41-39 advantage in shots but the Lenoir-Rhyne had a 39-26 edge in ground balls for the evening.
L-R freshman Patrick Stasio (Williamsville, N.Y.) earned the win in goal after stopping 15 shots while Lees-McRae goalkeeper Mike Fahey (Buffalo, N.Y.) tallied 11 saves in the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday at Moretz Stadium beginning at 1 p.m. Lees-McRae, meanwhile, hosts Lake Erie on Monday at 4 p.m.
