Newton, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Cross Country Team won the 2008 L-R Invitational Friday evening at Southside Park in Newton, N.C. Lenoir-Rhyne and Lees-McRae were tied at 41 but the Bears won the tiebreaker, 3-2, on the head-to-head of each team's top five runners.
On the men's side, Lees-McRae took home team honors after finishing with four runners in the top 11 while L-R placed third.
Individually, Lenoir-Rhyne senior Gennilee Eisenmann (Clayton, N.C.) won the women's 5K race with a time of 19:24 while Tusculum's Simon Holzapfel (Nuremberg, Germany) ran a 26:20 to finish first in the men's 8K race.
For the L-R women, freshman Tiffany Payne (Painted Post, N.Y.) and junior Alyssa Lowe (Maiden, N.C.) placed fifth and sixth overall with times of 20:01 and 20:07, respectively, to lead the Bears' first-place finish.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Jake Maidens (Lebanon, Va.) placed second overall with a time of 26:32 as the Bears' top men's runner. Junior Tyler Mooney (Reidsville, N.C.) ran a 27:22, good for 10th-place.
L-R next competes in the Blue Ridge Mountain Open on Friday, October 17, at 4:30 p.m., in Boone, N.C.
