Brevard Men's Basketball Rallies Late To Defeat Lenoir-Rhyne, 65-56

Lenoir-Rhyne junior forward Jeff Thomas finished with a team-high 14 points in a 65-56 setback to Brevard at home in a South Atlantic Conference contest.
Hickory, N.C. - The Brevard College Men's Basketball Team (12-11, 8-8) scored the game's final 11 points to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne University (3-21, 2-14), 65-56, Saturday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium in a South Atlantic Conference contest.
Brevard's Gaither Hendrix (Lenoir, N.C.) finished with a game-high 20 points and connected on four three-pointers as the Tornados outscored the Bears, 11-0, in the final 2:50 to sweep the season series from Lenoir-Rhyne for the second consecutive year.
Josh Jordan (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Tornados, who also rallied from a 38-33 halftime deficit to take the win.
Junior forward Jeff Thomas (Chapel Hill, N.C.) led Lenoir-Rhyne with 14 points while freshman guard Bryce Hawkins (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with 11 points and connected on three treys in the losing effort for the Bears.
Thomas' lay-up with 2:50 left gave the Bears a 56-54 advantage and their final lead of the contest.
However, a lay-up by the Tornados' senior guard Josh Roper (Charlotte, N.C.), the SAC's leading scorer, with 1:36 remaining gave Brevard a 58-56 lead and proved to be the game-winner for the visitors.
Freshman forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) added 10 points for Lenoir-Rhyne, who shot just 36 percent (22-of-62) for the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts league-rival Tusculum on Senior Night Wednesday beginning at 8 p.m. Brevard plays at Newberry on Wednesday at 8 p.m., as well in its next game.
